Magic Slippers 6x2l6a
Introduction
Create personalized magic slippers and improve letter recognition while putting those old socks to good use.
Materials:
- Old, clean socks (about 5-7 pairs, can be mismatched)
- Markers (fabric markers work best)
- Glitter and other decorations (pom-poms, sequence, adhesive gems)
- Glue
Directions:
- Decorate socks with your child using a variety of craft materials. Turn them into Magic Slippers.
- Write a letter on the top of each sock. Use the letters in your childs name and/or the letters in the words slipper and mend from the episode. Write the lowercase letter on one sock and the uppercase letter on another sock.
- Put all the socks in a pile.
- Have your child pull a sock from the pile. What letter is it? Have them put it on. Can they find a matching letter?
- Once a matching letter is found, put both slippers on and dance!
- Create an alphabet song using words that start with the letter on your socks.
Take it further:
- If you have a group of children, spell words using the socks. Figure out the order of the letters, put them on, and then lay down in a line with your feet out. Have your family guess which word you spelled! This can also be a fun photograph!
- Put on a performance and dance to your favorite music. Use ribbon sticks or scarves to create letters in the air.
Talk about it:
- Did Molly need Magic Slippers to help her perform?
- Have you ever been nervous? What does it feel like to be nervous?
- How did the song Breathe, Believe, and Begin help Molly?
- What is confidence? Have your child come up with ten of his/her own strengths.
